3 Most Likely Akiem Hicks Destinations in 2022 NFL Free Agency

After six strong years with the Chicago Bears, veteran defensive lineman Akiem Hicks is set to hit free agency. As a DT with a strong nose for getting after the quarterback, Hicks should be sought after around the league. He just finished a campaign of 3.5 sacks and 9 QB hits despite playing in only nine games and brings strong veteran leadership to wherever he signs.

Here are the three most likely free-agent destinations for the one-time Pro Bowler.

1. Dallas Cowboys

Offensive line is a bigger need for Dallas, but Jerry Jones is never afraid of making a splash in free agency. Dallas still has some work to do at $8 million over the cap, but the lack of DT depth is glaring after underwhelming performances by Osa Odighizuwa and Carlos Watkins. With Randy Gregory's 6.0 sacks potentially leaving in free agency, Dallas needs versatility on the defensive line.

2. Green Bay Packers

With their base 3-4 defense, Akiem Hicks would have to slide more into his previous defensive end role but he's shown that flexibility throughout his career. Tyler Lancaster hits free agency after an underwhelming 0-sack performance while no Packers defensive lineman recorded more than 5.0 sacks. With Aaron Rodgers returning, Green Bay needs to figure out that roster hole in order to compete for a championship.

3. Baltimore Ravens

Long are the days of the Baltimore Ravens' defense being the most intimidating unit in football. Injuries played a major role, but the Ravens still gave up the 14th-most points in football and a bottom-10 sack rate. Calais Campbell and Brandon Williams will both hit free agency, leaving massive holes on a slim defensive line. Hicks fits the profile and brings that defensive identity back to Baltimore.
