Despite battling both high- and low-ankle sprains, Adrian Peterson told reporters he plans to play in Week 8, as the Washington Redskins visit the Minnesota Vikings on "Thursday Night Football."

The Week 7 matchup includes two "revenge game" narratives, as Peterson will make his second return to Minnesota since leaving the Vikings in 2017, while Kirk Cousins will play his first game against his former team in the Redskins. The Vikings are favored by 16 points, according to FanDuel Sportsbook, in a game featuring a 42-point total.

Peterson has struggled to get anything going on the ground this year, playing behind a Redskins' offensive line that has been without offensive tackle Trent Williams all season. AP has rushed 83 times for 397 yards (3.7 yards per carry) with one touchdown through six games, adding five catches for 22 yards.

Despite his assertion that he will play, Peterson makes for a poor fantasy football start, even with two teams on bye. The Vikings are allowing the fifth-fewest fantasy points to running backs, and Peterson has failed to eclipse 37 rushing yards in four of six games this season. Due to the high point spread, this is likely a game where the Redskins will fall behind, rendering the running game obsolete.

Given the nature of the game script, we prefer receiving back Chris Thompson as a play against the Vikings, he comes in as the 35th ranked running back in our Week 8 PPR rankings.
