Although the St. Louis Cardinals season didn't end as planned, it was still a memorable campaign headlined by the bittersweet goodbyes to legends Albert Pujols and Yadier Molina. Starting pitcher Adam Wainwright as often grouped into the stops along this "farewell tour" as Cardinals fans were unsure if the three-time All-Star was ready for retirement.

On Wednesday, Wainwright and the team announced an official decision on his possible future for the 2023 season.

Cardinals insider Derrick Goold reported Wednesday morning that Wainwright will be returning to St. Louis for the 2023 season. This will mark his 18th season in the red and white.

It's still unclear the exact nature of Wainwright's 2023 contract. He previously signed a one-year, $8 million contract to pitch in 2022.

Wainwright will have an important opportunity to 200th career victory, a new milestone by starting pitchers' standards. The 41-year-old ace sits just five wins away from this mark.
