After running back Aaron Jones didn't receive the franchise tag last week from the Green Bay Packers, it seemed as though he'd headline this year's free-agent class. However, he and the team agreed to a new contract on Sunday, finally calming the nerves of the fanbase.

In fact, fans will love this detail from Jones' deal.

Aaron Jones Contract

It turns out the star RB took less money from the Packers in order to stick around in Green Bay. While he is still getting a hefty sum in an age where getting low-cost value at the position is all the rage, the fact he signed for less than he could've gotten on the open market should still endear him to fans and make the contract a little easier to swallow.

His yearly average only places him in a tie for the sixth-highest paid player at his position. So Green Bay didn't overpay entirely and will maintain a little flexibility. No one should fault a team with Super Bowl aspirations for making a win-now investment while Aaron Rodgers is still in town.

With 30 total touchdowns and 3,017 yards from scrimmage over the past two seasons, Jones certainly earned a nice payday, and now the Packers have a star in the backfield locked up on a long-term deal.
