This season has been a nightmare for the Cincinnati Bengals and A.J. Green fantasy owners alike as Green has been sidelined all year following offseason foot surgery, and it just took a turn for the worse ahead of Week 7's matchup with the Jacksonville Jaguars.
According to Sunday's morning reports, Green will not be able to return before October 29th (notable as it is the NFL trade deadline), and will need to be reevaluated after that time.
For Cincinnati, this bad news is twofold. First, the Bengals will not have their best player back on the field as they search for their first win of the season. Second, if Cincinnati decides to reverse course and trade Green, his trade value will likely be depressed by the fact that he has not appeared on the field this season.
For your fantasy team, the situation is exactly the same. If you were waiting for Green to return and save your team then this news seals the deal that any return by Green would be too late in the season (Week 9 at the earliest) to be anything other than a playoff addition.
If you were trying to get a return for Green on the trade market, then you are going to need to find an owner who is either out of the loop or interested in taking on a lot of risk.
It's a sad situation on all fronts, and for the Bengals and fantasy football players alike, it might be time to think about whether Green will be suiting up for you at all this season. There's silver lining for Tyler Boyd fantasy owners though, as he continues to serve as the team's No. 1 WR and sits 22nd at the position in our Week 7 PPR fantasy football rankings.
