Baseball umpires catch a lot of flack for the mistakes they make, but some of their mistakes are understandable in what is a pretty difficult job.

This one from last night's Cincinnati Reds vs Milwaukee Brewers game, though, is not one of them.

The home plate ump clearly forgot the bases were loaded, calling an easy out safe because there was no tag. Catcher Omar Narvaez and Ben Gamel were both immediately in the umpire's ear, reminding him of how baseball's rules work.

To the ump's credit, he did correct himself before things went too far — not forcing the Brewers to use a challenge on what was obvious to everyone in the stadium was a completely botched call.

This correction proved to be crucial, as the Brewers held onto that 3-2 lead for the rest of the game, improving to 13-15 on the season and increasing their lead over the 11-17 Reds in the NL Central.

Even after this win, the Reds and Brewers are still tied (at +900) for the third-best odds to win the NL Central this season, according to FanDuel Sportsbook.
