The New York Islanders have been turning heads all year with their stellar play.  After John Tavares officially announced he'd be departing to live out a dream of playing for the Toronto Maple Leafs, expectations around the Islanders plummeted and the loyal fanbase was crushed.

However, the Islanders have charged out to a great start this season, currently sitting atop the Metropolitan Division with 76 points. Fresh off a Feb. 16, 5-2 thrashing of the Edmonton Oilers, the Islanders are now winners in six of their last eight games.

The Islanders seem primed for a deep Stanley Cup Playoff run, yet the oddsmakers at FanDuel Sportsbook have given the Islanders (+1600) only the eighth-best odds to take home the title this year.

The Tampa Bay Lightning (+300) have set themselves apart from the pack this year and are an even heavier favorite than when they opened the season with the second-best odds in the league (+800).

The large discrepancy between the Lightning, Calgary Flames (+850) and John Tavares' new team, the Maple Leafs(+900), who have the second and third-best odds to win according to FanDuel Sportsbook, reflects just how dominant the Lightning have been this season.

Tampa Bay has amassed 94 points, which is 16 more than the second-place Boston Bruins and have a goal differential of +77, which is over 30 goals better than the Maple Leafs, who have the second-best differential in the NHL at +42.
