Pelinka on Lonzo Ball (knee scope in July): "He’s been 100% cleared by our medical staff to return to full basketball activity. Because he hasn’t played NBA 5-on-5 for 4 or 5 months, there is a progression to come back."— Mike Trudell (@LakersReporter) September 20, 2018
With other off-season additions like point guard Rajon Rondo to the Lake Show, Ball may have been feeling a little bit of the competition heat lit under him while rehabbing his knee surgery over this summer.
Lonzo Ball will participate in day one of training camp, but will work his way back to full-contact, 5-on-5 scrimmaging. https://t.co/AohfLByow3— Los Angeles Lakers (@Lakers) September 21, 2018
Even though the former No. 2 overall pick hasn't worked his way back to full contact-ready practices quite yet, there's nothing that stirs the fantasy scoring pot quite like some old fashion competition for a starting spot between a young phenom and a seasoned vet.
If Lonzo ends up securing the starting role for the Lakers at the point, you can rest assured he'll be playing with a little more urgency knowing Rondo is behind him ready to take over.
