The San Francisco 49ers have a pivotal NFC West matchup against the Los Angeles Rams in front of them on Monday night. With wide receiver Danny Gray listed as 'doubtful' due to a hip injury, the team has added a reinforcement to the active roster. Veteran Willie Snead will suit up for action in Week 4.

Snead is being elevated from the practice squad as he joins Deebo Samuel, Brandon Aiyuk, Jauan Jennings and Ray-Ray McLoud to fill out the WR position. It'll be the 29-year-old's first taste of NFL action since Week 15 of the 2021 season and his first chance to impress the 49ers coaching staff.
After signing a one-year deal with San Francisco at the beginning of August, Snead was let go prior to the 53-man roster deadline. It was only a matter of days before he was signed back onto the practice squad. His ability to block along the outside should help the 49ers run the ball efficiently against LA.
The former Ball State standout has played 95 games (48 starts) across seven NFL seasons, racking up 3,431 yards and 16 touchdowns on 279 receptions. Snead only posted 38 yards on 4 receptions in 2021, though, failing to make much of an impact with the Carolina Panthers or Las Vegas Raiders.
Gray was absent from practice this week as he continues to deal with a hip issue that kept him on the sideline in Week 1. He then only appeared in seven snaps in Week 2 and six snaps in Week 3. For now, the 49ers are listed as a 1.5-point home favorite against the Rams, according to FanDuel Sportsbook.
