The San Francisco 49ers are preparing to select their next franchise quarterback with the No. 3 pick in the upcoming 2021 NFL Draft. Incumbent starter Jimmy Garoppolo's days are numbered, even if the team hasn't traded him yet and is acting like he's in their future plans.

San Francisco clearly hasn't been wowed by any offers so far to move Jimmy G. But Peter King suggests the 49ers' asking price could come down as the draft approaches.

Jimmy Garoppolo 49ers Trade Price

King confirms other reports that the team is looking for a first-round pick in exchange for Garoppolo. No teams seem to have put that on the table so far, and he remains available. With suitors abstaining from that price, King suggests the 49ers consider taking a second-round pick. He highlights the New England Patriots as a destination that makes sense.

"It won’t surprise me if the Niners make Jimmy G more available than he’s been. In other words, instead of trying to get a first-round pick for him, maybe considering taking a two for him. I wonder if the Patriots would deal the 46th pick in the draft, or their second-rounder in 2022, for their old friend."

It's known around the league that New England is searching for their own franchise QB after Tom Brady's departure. They reloaded their roster in free agency and Cam Newton isn't the long-term solution. The Patriots have been active leading up to the draft exploring opportunities to trade up.

New England could end up with one of the top QBs in the draft if they move up to the top 10. But if they miss out while San Francisco gets their guy, it seems it'd be no shock if the Patriots come calling and the 49ers are open to a deal.
