3 Teams Emerge as Potential Sam Darnold Suitors

New York Jets quarterback Sam Darnold is one of a few QBs with the potential to move on to a new team in 2021. Darnold hasn't lived up to being the No. 3 overall selection in his three seasons with the Jets, but there are some QB-needy teams who could be interested in taking a flier on the USC product.

According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, the Indianapolis Colts, Washington Football Team and Carolina Panthers have at least spoken to the Jets about Darnold. That doesn't mean anything will happen, but it foreshadows a deal to one of those franchises.
Each of those three teams is in need of a quarterback for 2021. Philip Rivers' retirement leaves a possible contender in the Colts scrambling for a QB before their window to compete closes. Washington is in a similar boat, with a rising defense and Alex Smith likely hanging his cleats up.
Meanwhile, the Panthers seem ready to move on from Teddy Bridgewater after just one season.
Darnold is officially under contract until next season, with a fifth-year option too, but the Jets could move him via trade this offseason given that they hold the No. 2 pick in this year's draft, putting them in prime position to pick their next franchise QB.
