Week 1 of the 2022 NFL season is finally here. As usual, most of the action takes place on Sunday, including a clash between the New Orleans Saints and Atlanta Falcons. FanDuel Sportsbook's NFL odds currently list the Saints as 5.5-point road favorites.

Nevertheless, the Falcons are a team without many expectations, leaving them in a prime spot to pull off an upset. Atlanta is quite familiar with its division rival and if head coach Arthur Smith can have his squad buying in right away, a shocking result could be in the cards.

Here are three reasons why the Falcons will upset the Saints in Week 1 of the 2022 NFL season.

Falcons vs Saints Week 1

1. Question Marks in Saints' Passing Game

The Saints' roster appears to be much better than it was in 2021. Having said that, it's important to remember that some of New Orleans' offensive players haven't had much time to gel together. Wideouts Chris Olave and Jarvis Landry are both in their first year on the team. Michael Thomas hasn't played meaningful football in nearly two years and hasn't had a real chance to play with quarterback Jameis Winston, who's coming back from an ACL tear while also dealing with a foot injury from training camp. Even if the Falcons don't have the best defense on paper, they must exploit the Saints' question marks on offense.

2. Saints' Weaker Offensive Line

The Saints have been known to have one of the better offensive lines in recent years. Unfortunately, things took a hit when offensive tackle Terron Armstead left for the Miami Dolphins in the offseason. Rookie Trevor Penning was supposed to be his replacement, but the 23-year-old is sidelined until November at the earliest. Given that Winston has been mistake-prone in the past, it wouldn't be shocking if a weaker offensive line brings those issues up again. If the Falcons can up the pressure early on and force Winston to turn the ball over, things will look promising.

3. Dennis Allen's Poor Coaching Record

After years of the Sean Payton era, Dennis Allen is the new Saints head coach beginning this season. Although Allen knows the organization well after being on the coaching staff since 2015, he doesn't have the best track record. This is the 49-year-old's second head coaching stint after going an abysmal 8-28 with then-Oakland Raiders from 2012-2014. Yes, that was a long time ago, but Allen has to prove that he can be more successful this time around. That could be easier said than done with all the pressure he's facing, opening the door for an Atlanta victory.
