After a long process, Dallas Keuchel has finally found a home for the 2019 MLB season, as he signed with the Atlanta Braves Thursday night. Up until the moment Keuchel signed, the New York Yankees were among the favorites to acquire the former Cy Young award winner.
With Keuchel now out of the picture, the Yankees will likely have to make a trade in order to bolster their starting rotation. With that in mind, here are three starting pitchers the Yankees could look to acquire ahead of the 2019 MLB Trade Deadline.
3. Marcus Stroman, Toronto Blue Jays
Although Marcus Stroman's record might not show it (3-7), the 28-year-old righty has had a solid start to the season, currently holding a 2.84 ERA heading into Friday's slate of games. Stroman is young enough to be a part of the Yankees' long-term future, making him that much more attractive in the trade market. He's also a New York native, so a trade to the Yankees would be something of a homecoming for Stroman.
2. Madison Bumgarner, San Francisco Giants
It feels like Madison Bumgarner has been on the trade block for years now, but this could be the season he's finally dealt. The Yankees have generally been a part of that trade conversation, and he'd be a great fit in New York. Bumgarner is a solid pitcher in the regular season, but his postseason success (8-3, 2.11 ERA in 16 playoff appearances) could make him an even more valuable asset in New York.
1. Trevor Bauer, Cleveland Indians
Trevor Bauer might be having a bit of a down year by his standards (4-6, 3.93 ERA), but he's been really effective at Yankee Stadium throughout his career. Although the sample size is small, Bauer holds a career 2.91 ERA through 21 2/3 innings pitched at Yankee Stadium. Like Stroman, he's young enough to be in New York for a long time if the Yankees want him to be. Given his dominance in New York, Bauer could be the most logical trade target on this list.
