3 Most Likely Destinations for Jamal Crawford in Free Agency

Jamal Crawford is one of the more creative and prolific scorers the NBA has seen in recent memory. After a solid year with the Phoenix Suns last season, the 39-year-old veteran remains a free agent in 2019. With the NBA season a dozen or so games in, teams are beginning to figure out holes they have and possible solutions to fill them – see Carmelo Anthony signing with the Portland Trail Blazers earlier this week.
Crawford's lack of team this season is "baffling" to both he and many fans. In his final game with the Suns last season, he dropped 51 points. Clearly, Crawford still has the scoring ability that made him so lethal for so long, despite his advanced age.
With Crawford being arguably the best free agent on the market, let's take a look at three teams that could potentially sign the veteran guard.
1. Los Angeles Lakers
With a league-best 12-2 record, the Los Angeles Lakers are arguably the best team in the NBA. Even so, you can never have too much depth. LeBron James is seemingly at his best when surrounded by shooters and Crawford, a savvy veteran and capable shooter, could be a nice fit in Los Angeles. Los Angeles currently gets the 10th-fewest points per game from its bench unit (34.9) and Crawford could give the Lakers a nice scoring punch off the bench.
2. Golden State Warriors
One of the biggest strengths of the Golden State Warriors' recent title teams has been their depth, much of which was taken up by aging, high-IQ veterans like Crawford. While Golden State is certainly no title contender in 2019, they could bring in Crawford to improve their depth, which is clearly a weakness this season, as it's filled up with much more young players than in years past. The draw to Golden State for Crawford could be playing time, where he would conceivably receive more than he would with the other two teams on this list.
3. Los Angeles Clippers
While the Clippers will offer many of the same opportunities as the Lakers for Crawford in terms of team talent, success and of course, geography, he does have more familiarity with the Clippers, having played there from 2012-17. Crawford could bring some offense and depth to a second unit and team that already is known for its defense. He's also a solid insurance plan in case Lou Williams ever goes down with an injury.
