After seven productive seasons together, the Chicago Cubs and catcher Willson Contreras are potentially preparing to part ways.

Contreras, 30, will be a free agent at season's end. So with the Cubs kicking off their final homestand of the season on Tuesday against the Philadelphia Phillies, he reflected on what could be his final games at Wrigley Field in a Chicago uniform.

In what could be viewed as a bittersweet time of the year for Contreras, he's trying to stay upbeat. "I'm just gonna go out there to have fun," he told reporters ahead of Tuesday's game. Contreras also noted how important it is for him to play these final games at home, especially after being the subject of trade rumors earlier in the season.

Contreras is also looking forward to spending a little more time with his teammates, as he may be playing alongside a new cast of characters next year. The three-time All-Star will certainly be in high demand this offseason, although he may not fit into the future plans of a rebuilding Cubs team that is focused on acquiring young talent for the future.

Regardless of what happens this winter, Contreras can count on getting plenty of appreciation from Chicago fans over the next week. In addition to enjoying his personal success, they'll always be grateful to him for his role on the 2016 team that ended the franchise's 108-year championship drought.
