As the NFL is set to begin week three of the preseason, teams must cut their training camp rosters down to 80 players ahead of Tuesday's deadline. The Las Vegas Raiders made a series of roster moves to begin this next round of training camp cuts, including the release of veteran cornerback Rasul Douglas.

In what was poised to be Douglas' fifth NFL season, the cornerback will no longer get a chance to sit on Las Vegas' Week 1 roster. It's a bit of a surprising move considering the early success of his career.

Douglas spent his first three seasons with the Philadelphia Eagles and appeared in all but two games during that span, including 18 starts. He then played in 14 more games for the Carolina Panthers last season and averages 9 passes defended across a 16-game season in his career.

Last year, only 38 NFL defenders notched double digits in passes defended, proving the worth of a defender like Douglas. It's very possible that Douglas ends up on a different roster needing cornerback depth before the official start of the 2021 campaign. But, it won't be in Las Vegas.
