With the 145th running of the Kentucky Derby scheduled to start at approximately 6:50 p.m. EST this Saturday, we've seen some noticeable changes since the first lineup was released.
As of 2:45 p.m. EST on Saturday, May 4, the morning-line favorite is Game Winner, with 9/2 odds. Game Winner was previously in a three-way tie with Roadster and Omaha Beach for the best odds at 4/1. However, since Omaha Beach was scratched Wednesday, Game Winner has since risen to sole possession of the best odds for Saturday evening's race, according to TVG.
Kentucky Derby Post Positions & Lineup
Famed trainer Bob Baffert has three horses running in this race, Game Winner, Roadster and Improbable. Improbable drew the 5 position, the best of the bunch. According to history, Roadster drew the worst position at 17. The 17 position is 0-39 in Derby races since 1930. Game Winner is slotted next to him at 16, not much better.
War of Will drew the feared 1 post, but has shown the ability to break out of the gate fast. Who knows if he will have the stamina to keep it going until the finish, which he seemed to struggle with in his last race, finishing ninth.
Whoever comes out of top, for the first time in a long time, heading into the Run for the Roses, there isn't a clear favorite. Although, if the favorite does end up winning, that will mark seven straight Derbys that saw the favorite sitting in the winner's circle.
