Now that the 2021 NFL schedule has been released, fans can fully turn their attention to the season ahead.

Looking at the San Francisco 49ers' full schedule, the big questions is when rookie Trey Lance makes his debut. It sounds like Kyle Shanahan plans to have Jimmy Garoppolo under center to start the season, but it shouldn't belong before the No. 3 overall pick gets his chance.

The most obvious spot would be Week 7 against the Indianapolis Colts.

Not only would the Week 6 bye give Lance two weeks to prepare for his first start, but the three games before that one are no cakewalk.

Jimmy G should have no issues against the Detroit Lions and Philadelphia Eagles in Week 1 and 2, but drawing the Green Bay Packers (if Aaron Rodgers is still there) followed by two divisional games means the 49ers could hit some early speedbumps.

If the team drops those games and heads into their bye week with a 2-3 record, Shanahan would be getting a ton of pressure to make the quarterback switch.

The other interesting possibility would be Week 17 against the Houston Texans. If the 49ers are in the playoff hunt all year, they aren't likely to make the switch. But if they fall out of contention late in the year, getting Lance his first game action against a Texans squad that looks like one of the worst in the NFL could be the perfect move.

And of course, the other option that can't be ignored is that Lance's first start comes in Week 1. Coaches' offseason comments don't always mean much, and Shanahan may just be playing koi with his real plans.

Whenever Lance's first start comes, it's safe to say 49ers fans will be excited for the moment.
