The 2021 MLB season is approaching, which means preparation for fantasy baseball drafts is in full swing. Here at The Duel, we're outlining not only the best overall options, but some sleepers as well who can push your roster over the top if they pan out.

With that in mind, here are three sleepers for saves during the 2021 fantasy baseball season.

Top 2021 Fantasy Baseball Sleepers for Saves

3. Trevor Rosenthal, Oakland Athletics

The Oakland Athletics have their new closer in veteran Trevor Rosenthal. Once a star for the St. Louis Cardinals, Tommy John surgery caused him to miss the 2018 campaign and led to down numbers in 2019. However, he bounced back in 2020 with the Kansas City Royals and San Diego Padres, posting a 1.90 ERA across 23.2 innings. He earned 11 saves, which tied him for seventh in the majors, and his strikeout percentage (41.8%) was among the league's best. Coming off that rebound season and facing little competition, Rosenthal could be a great value as the 23rd player with RP eligibility being taken in drafts, per FantasyPros' Average Draft Position (ADP) data.

2. Alex Colome, Minnesota Twins

Another closer on a new team, Alex Colome departed from the Chicago White Sox this offseason following their signing of Liam Hendricks. Colome was stellar in 2019 with the Sox, tying for ninth in the majors with 30 saves. He followed that up with 12 saves in 2020, putting him in a tie for fourth. He's a clear upgrade over Taylor Rodgers, so he's in prime position to rack up saves with the Twins' retooled roster. At just 20th in ADP, he's a great pickup with the potential to have a huge impact for fantasy managers this season.

1. Mark Melancon, San Diego Padres

Being the closing pitcher for the San Diego Padres is an attractive position to be in. Mark Melancon will have a real shot at securing that opportunity over fellow relief pitchers Drew Pomeranz and Emilio Pagan this season. Melancon is coming off of an impressive showing with the Atlanta Braves, totaling 22 saves over 43.2 innings during the 2019 and 2020 seasons. His 11 saves during the shortened 2020 campaign tied him with Rosenthal for the seventh most in the majors. With the Padres being legit World Series contenders due to an explosive offense and elite starting rotation, Melancon will be looked back on as an absolute steal at 32nd in FantasyPros' ADP data if he wins closing duties outright.
