There's excitement in the air throughout the baseball world as the 2022 MLB season's Opening Day is less than 72 hours away. Several teams have already added top prospects to their respective rosters and the Cincinnati Reds are the next club to follow the trend.

Southpaw Nick Lodolo, the top Reds prospect, was officially added to Cincinnati's Opening Day roster on Monday. The 24-year-old was the seventh overall pick at the 2019 MLB Draft, so it's safe to say that his debut is one of the more highly-anticipated ones in 2022.

The Reds will begin the new season with four starters, which points to an April 13 game against the Cleveland Guardians as Lodolo's likely MLB debut.

Lodolo was impressive in the 13 combined AA/AAA starts he made in 2021. Although his 2-2 record wasn't earth-shattering, his 2.31 ERA, 0.967 WHIP and 13.9 strikeouts per nine innings pitched have a lot of fans hoping that Cincinnati has a future Cy Young winner on its hands.

The good news is that Lodolo has carried his dominant pitching to Spring Training. He's gone 1-0 in four Cactus League games (three starts) so far, tallying a 2.38 ERA and 0.971 WHIP. He's also yet to allow a home run while giving up only a pair of walks.

Reds fans will be watching to see just how well Lodolo transitions to the MLB regular season. If he does, the club might have a better season than what the oddsmakers are predicting.

FanDuel Sportsbook is currently giving the Reds just +1600 odds to win the NL Central division in 2022, putting them only ahead of the Pittsburgh Pirates (+5000).
