The Cleveland Guardians have given their fanbase plenty to cheer about throughout the 2022 baseball season and so have their prospects, including catcher Bo Naylor. The 22-year-old Canadian has been nothing but terrific with Double-A Akron, leading to his promotion to Triple-A on Monday.
A first-round draft pick in 2018, Naylor's debut season with Akron RubberDucks in 2021 was more than forgettable. Though his 10 home runs and 44 RBIs in 87 games isn't exactly the worst, he only batted .189 while leading his club with 112 strikeouts.
Fortunately, 2022 has been night and day for the Mississauga, Ontario native, who's batting .271 with six HRs and 21 RBIs in 52 games. He's also impressed his coaches with a .898 on-base plus slugging percentage and has also stolen more bases this season (11) than he did last year (10) in 35 fewer games.
There's no denying Naylor's offense has been impressive, but so has his defense. He owns a .996 fielding percentage and has given up just two errors in 360.2 innings spent at the catcher position.
It remains to be seen if Naylor can be as effective in Triple-A. If he can continue his production, it might not be long before he joins his older brother, Josh, who's been with the Guardians since the 2020 MLB season.
