With the 2020 MLB season rapidly approaching, it's time to begin preparation for this year's fantasy baseball drafts. Here at The Duel, we'll have you covered every step of the way.
We've already got our top 100 fantasy baseball players for the 2020 MLB season, but now we're going to take things a step further and break it down by position.
With that in mind, here are the top-10 second basemen for fantasy baseball in 2020.
Fantasy Baseball 2B Rankings
10. Jeff McNeil, New York Mets
9. Max Muncy, Los Angeles Dodgers
Eligible across plenty of positions to give you some lineup flexibility, Max Muncy has flashed some serious power in his young major league career. Playing 100-plus major league games for the first time in 2018, he posted a .407 weighted on-base average (wOBA) that year and a .372 in 2019. He went yard 35 times in each season, scoring a combined 176 runs with 177 RBI. That power comes with some shaky strikeout numbers (25.5 percent career strikeout rate), but he does balance that out with plenty of free passes (15.1 percent walk rate).
8. Keston Hiura, Milwaukee Brewers
7. DJ LeMahieu, New York Yankees
6. Jonathan Villar, Miami Marlins
5. Whit Merrifield, Kansas City Royals
4. Ketel Marte, Arizona Diamondbacks
Ketel Marte looked like a new hitter in 2019. His 41.9 percent hard-hit rate was well above his career average (32.2 percent), his 15.7 percent soft-hit rate was well below his average (19.6 percent), and he put up more fly balls (34.8 percent) and fewer ground balls (43.1 percent) than in any of his first four major league seasons. That translated to a slash line of .329/.389/.592 with a terrific .405 wOBA. That surge in production lifted him to 32 home runs, 97 runs, 92 RBI and 10 steals, giving him plenty of value across the board.
3. Ozzie Albies, Atlanta Braves
2. Jose Altuve, Houston Astros
1. Gleyber Torres, New York Yankees
Gleyber Torres' 2019 sophomore campaign saw him launch 38 home runs while adding 96 runs, 90 RBI and 5 steals in a high-powered New York Yankees offense. His batted-ball profile shows those power numbers were no fluke either, as he's sporting a 39.2 percent hard-hit rate and 42.3 percent fly-ball rate through his first two MLB seasons. He ranked ninth in batting average, ninth in OBP and third in slugging among second baseman, with a .278/.337/.535 slash line. The Yankees' offense should also continue elevating the run and RBI production of everyone in the order, owning the highest win total projection for any team this season.
