Tony La Russa Provides a Pair of Injury Updates on Yoan Moncada and Liam Hendriks

A disastrous slew of injuries finally caught up with the Chicago White Sox, who are losers of eight straight games. Manager Tony La Russa spoke to the media on Wednesday to provide some injury updates, notably on infielder Yoan Moncada and closer Liam Hendriks.
Yoan Moncada Injury Update
Moncada's update comes in the form of mixed news. The slugging infielder will begin his rehab assignment with Triple-A Charlotte this coming weekend, but is still dealing with some lingering pain. La Russa reported Moncada still feels his oblique issue when swinging left-handed.
The switch hitter is crucial to a White Sox lineup that has struggled mightily amidst other injuries. Chicago ranks just 27th in offense at 3.12 runs per game, a far cry from last year's top-10 ranking.
Tony La Russa said Yoán Moncada and Joe Kelly will both be at Triple-A Charlotte on Friday.

Moncada said he still slightly feels his oblique issue while swinging left-handed. Yesterday was the first time he’s taken batting practice
Liam Hendriks Injury Update
Hendriks' injury is a newer issue for Chicago. The elite closer is considered day-to-day thanks to back spasms. He hasn't appeared in action since Sunday, when he went out for a second inning of work against the Minnesota Twins in extra innings.
Liam Hendriks said his back is feeling better, but sounds like they’d rather not use him today. He said it probably wasn’t the best idea in hindsight to pitch the 10th inning in Sunday, but said he’s wired to never want to give in. Relatedly, he wasn’t in favor of IBBing Buxton

Hendriks is "feeling better" but sounds like the White Sox will avoid using him again on Wednesday against the Kansas City Royals.
White Sox News
The White Sox now sit in last place in the AL Central at 6-10. Fortunately, Chicago is just 2.5 games back of first place. Getting the team healthy is a top priority considering Tony La Russa's squad holds +1200 odds (6th) to win the 2022 World Series on FanDuel Sportsbook.
