After the excruciatingly long wait, baseball is finally coming back! The 60-game MLB regular season will officially begin Thursday, July 23rd, and it has sports fans around the world more excited about July baseball than ever.

It also has baseball analysts excited to give their predictions for the unique season ahead. Tom Verducci, MLB expert for Sports Illustrated, recently gave his predictions for 2020, which is headlined by a wild pick of championing the Cincinnati Reds to win the NL Central.

Given their recent history, predicting the Reds to win the NL Central is an interesting choice, even with the shortened season. The last time Cincinnati finished the season with a winning record was in 2013, when they went 90-72. Despite a winning record, they still finished third in the division. Since then, they have finished last in the division in four of the past seven seasons.

The last time the Reds won the NL Central was in 2012, with a 97-65 record. With +230 odds to win the division this season, according to FanDuel Sportsbook, they are tied with the Chicago Cubs for the best odds to do it. The two teams are just ahead of the St. Louis Cardinals (+240), creating an interesting three-team race in this shortened season.

FanDuel Sportsbook also has the Reds' projected win total set at 31.5, with -116 odds on the over. Cincinnati winning 32 games would give them a .530 win percentage, which would prove the club's best mark since that 2013 season.
