The football world is filled with excitement now that the 2022 NFL Draft is only a few days away. One of the teams to watch will be the Minnesota Vikings, who hold the 12th overall selection and are seeking a game-changer after missing the playoffs in three of the last four seasons.
The Vikings have several needs to address, especially when it comes to their defense. Fortunately, ESPN's Todd McShay has them potentially getting the help that they need in the form of Notre Dame safety Kyle Hamilton.
Minnesota Vikings NFL Draft
Hamilton is the highest-rated safety among most draft experts, with McShay even listing him as his fourth-best prospect. Nevertheless, the ESPN analyst projects that the 21-year-old defender "could very well slide into the teens" but probably won't make it beyond the Vikings.
Earning consensus All-American honors last fall, Hamilton ended his Notre Dame tenure with 138 tackles, 16 defended passes, eight interceptions and two Pick-6's in 31 games. Standing at 6-foot-4 and weighing 220 pounds, he also has the size to deal with most opposing offensive threats.
The Vikings' secondary was largely ineffective last season, surrendering 252.9 passing yards (No. 28) and 10.7 yards per completion (No. 26) per game in 2021. If the team is ever going to be taken seriously, management can't ignore that area this week.
Hamilton certainly has the talent to help amend this issue. On top of that, his ability to line up virtually anywhere helps the Vikings be flexible in terms of where and when they can use him.
Vikings fans won't have to wait long before knowing if they should pre-order Hamilton jerseys. The 2022 NFL Draft begins this Thursday, April 28 at 8 p.m. ET as it airs live from Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, Nevada.
