The New Orleans Saints brought back Jameis Winston this offseason to remain their starting quarterback for the next two years. His injury-riddled 2021 campaign proved one thing, the Saints are in need of a new franchise QB in the continued wake of Drew Brees' retirement.

Fortunately, the Saints are projected to land a massive steal and the next face of their franchise in Todd McShay's latest 2022 NFL Mock Draft.

Saints NFL Mock Draft

McShay projects the Saints to take North Carolina's Sam Howell at No. 49 overall, all the way in the second round. Considering the lack of a clear-cut star in this year's quarterback class, Howell and the other top QBs have been projected in the first round of multiple other mocks.

FanDuel Sportsbook's NFL Draft Odds even show Howell with the ninth-best odds to be taken No. 1 overall.

Like the other QBs, Howell is a project. He's not an obvious Week 1 starter, but showed some impressive skills in three years at North Carolina. He's tallied a pair of seasons with 3,500+ passing yards and 30+ touchdowns to just seven interceptions.

The best part of this latest mock is New Orleans' ability to address two other roster needs before taking Howell in Round 2. This ESPN mock draft also has the Saints selecting offensive tackle Trevor Penning at No. 16 and Ohio State wide receiver Chris Olave at No. 19.

All eyes will be on the NFL Draft next week, which kicks off on Thursday, April 28 in Las Vegas, Nevada.
