There haven't been many bright spots this season for a Detroit Tigers team that currently sits 12.5 games back in the AL Central division.
The emergence of outfielder Akil Baddoo has given the fans something to be excited about, though.
Unfortunately, the rookie is set to be placed on the concussion injured list before Wednesday night's game.
Baddoo was part of a brutal outfield collision with teammate Derek Hill during the Tigers' Tuesday night win and it seems to have taken a toll on him. The 22-year-old is dealing with concussion-like symptoms and is also reportedly being checked for a minor shoulder injury.
This isn't the news Tigers fans wanted to hear as Baddoo has provided a spark at the top of this offensive lineup. He is slashing .267/.333/.467 on the year with 10 home runs and 45 RBI. Baddoo's speed has been a focal point as he has racked up a team-leading 14 stolen bases and 6 triples through 93 games played.
More news regarding Baddoo's status should come out as the week rolls on. It's always tricky to tell given head injuries are different for every athlete. For now, the Tigers will attempt to fill in the gap by moving utility players like Eric Haase and Nico Goodrum to the outfield.
The Tigers remains long shots to make any kind of postseason run this year and currently sit 10.0 games back of the second AL Wild Card spot. Hopefully Baddoo can return sooner rather than later as he plays a crucial role in the future success of this squad.
