The Philadelphia Eagles benefited from a weak division and easy schedule late in the season, but they still missed out on a postseason chance. There's no doubting that injuries were the story for the Eagles in 2019, but their defensive struggles, including trouble getting after the quarterback, also held them back. To combat this, the Eagles should go out and get free agent Jadeveon Clowney.

Philadelphia totaled just 43 sacks last season, which was 11 fewer than the league-leading Steelers. The Eagles also did not have anyone on the team with a double-digit sack total, with Brandon Graham leading the group at 8.5. When there's a player like Clowney available that has the potential to hit that double-digit total, teams like the Eagles that are trying to get over the hump need to make a move.

Clowney spent last season with the Seattle Seahawks, after being traded from the Houston Texans. When looking at the season's stats, Clowney's 3.0 sacks look incredibly disappointing. However, he came up big in big moments and posted the seventh-best pass rush win rate among edge defenders. He also played incredibly well against the run, which those stats also fail to showcase.

Clowney had 18.5 sacks the previous two seasons combined, and he absolutely has the skills to put up numbers like that again. The Eagles had some problems letting teams back into games last season, and improving the pass rush can go a long way in helping to prevent that in 2020.
