The Houston Texans are on a bye this week, but that doesn't mean they're sitting around doing nothing.
The Texans added a tight end to the active roster on Wednesday. elevating Jordan Akins from the practice squad after releasing Jordan Pharaoh last week.
Houston Texans News
Akins has emerged as a reliable contributor on offense over the past several weeks, notching multiple receptions in each of his last three games. He also hauled in a touchdown during his season debut in Week 3 against the Chicago Bears.
The 30-year-old Akins is in his fifth NFL season, all of which have been spent with Houston. He's appeared in 61 games during that time, drawing 23 starts. He's also had some success on offense, catching 121-of-170 targets for 1,346 receiving yards and 4 touchdowns.
Akins should have a larger opportunity without competing for looks with Pharaoh Brown, who was released on Oct. 4. Brown has since signed with the Cleveland Browns, opening the door for Akins to take on a more substantial role in his absence.
The Texans will shoot for their second win of the season when they return from their bye against the Las Vegas Raiders in Week 7. Houston is currently a 7-point road underdog for that matchup on FanDuel Sportsbook's NFL odds.
