Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver Tee Higgins is still in concussion protocol after leaving Week 1's loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers with a scary head injury, but recent reports suggest he may be able to play on Sunday against the Dallas Cowboys.

According to Bengals head coach Zac Taylor, Higgins is "making progress" through the NFL's concussion protocol. So how does this latest injury update affect the wideout's fantasy outlook for Sunday?

For starters, it's encouraging to hear that Higgins is making strides in his recovery. Even if he isn't able to suit up on Sunday, he appears to have a good chance of returning in Week 3 against the New York Jets.

If Higgins does play on Sunday, it's possible he'll be limited in some capacity, as Taylor may want to risk exposing him to too many hits. He also has a tough road matchup against a Cowboys defense that just limited Tom Brady to 212 passing yards and 1 passing touchdown in Week 1.

Higgins looked good before going down, bringing in both of his targets for 27 yards. If he plays, he'll return to his WR2 role behind Ja'Marr Chase in Cincinnati's potent offense, which is expecting a bounce-back performance from Joe Burrow after he committed five turnovers and was sacked seven times against the Steelers.

With the Bengals currently favored by 7.5 points on FanDuel Sportsbook's NFL odds, they may not need to pass as much if they build up an early lead. If Cooper Rush struggles in place of the injured Dak Prescott, Cincinnati will be able to lean more heavily on Joe Mixon and the ground game.

In short, keep an eye on Higgins' status, as he'll likely end up being a game-time decision. If he plays, his high floor makes him a must-start as our WR26 in this week's fantasy rankings. Make sure to have a backup plan ready, however, in case the Bengals opt to exercise caution with their stud receiver.
