It's been a while since Denver Broncos fans have had as much reason to be excited about their offense as they do in 2022.
That excitement took a small hit when Tim Patrick suffered a serious training camp injury, but there's already a rookie stepping up to bring the excitement level back up: Montrell Washington.
Washington has been a consistent standout so far in Broncos camp, showing both impressive speed and hands.
Playing college ball for the Samford Bulldogs, Washington was a first-team All-SoCon selection in 2021 as a return specialist as well as a second-team selection at wide receiver. The Broncos selected him in the fifth round of the 2022 NFL Draft, probably expecting him to serve mostly as a returning considering the crowded wide receiver depth chart.
But with Patrick gone, there's suddenly serious opportunity for a wideout to step up. Courtland Sutton and Jerry Jeudy obviously have the top two spots on the depth chart locked up, but KJ Hamler is no lock for No. 3 while he works back from his ACL injury. And behind Hamler it's a total toss-up including Washington, Kendall Hinton, Seth Williams and Travis Fulgham.
Washington's upside and playmaking ability is shining through in full at training camp, and another couple weeks of impressive performances could easily have the fifth-round pick working his way into the rotation on the offense right from Week 1.
With all of this offensive upside, FanDuel Sportsbook's NFL odds have the Broncos at +1700 to win the Super Bowl, which ranks No. 8 in the NFL.
