Stephon Gilmore is still one of the best cornerbacks in football. The 30-year-old was the NFL's Defensive Player of the Year in 2019, becoming the first cornerback to earn that distinction since Charles Woodson in 2009. He followed that year up with his third-straight Pro Bowl appearance in 2020.

However, there have been rumblings about a potential trade for a while now. Entering the final year of his deal, it's not a stretch to assume Bill Belichick will trade him prior to the season rather than risk losing him for nothing.

Here are the three most likely trade destinations for the four-time Pro Bowler.

Stephon Gilmore Trade Rumors

3. Arizona Cardinals

The Arizona Cardinals have a pretty huge hole at cornerback. But on the surface, this team doesn't appear to have enough cap space to make a move like this. However, Arizona can free up around $10 million by releasing CB Robert Alford and TE Maxx Williams. That should allow the Cards to open up enough space for a 1-year rental of Gilmore. For a team that just went all in to sign J.J. Watt, a move like this makes a ton of sense.

2. Indianapolis Colts

The Indianapolis Colts just revitalized Xavier Rhodes' career, but he might walk in free agency this offseason. Whether or not he stays, Gilmore would be an excellent player for this team to target. Having Rhodes and Gilmore on the outside with Kenny Moore handling the slot would give Indianapolis one of the best secondaries in football. And if Rhodes left, Gilmore would be the best replacement possible. Gilmore is a luxury Indianapolis can afford, too, thanks to the Colts' $50 million in cap space (No. 4 in the NFL).

1. Cleveland Browns

A move like this could instantly vault the Cleveland Browns into the NFL's elite. Pairing Gilmore with burgeoning star Denzel Ward would give Cleveland one of the best CB tandems in the NFL. And with Myles Garrett wrecking the game on the D-Line, this pass defense would get dangerous in a hurry. Cleveland's analytics-driven front office clearly emphasizes spending defensive resources at pass-rusher and in the secondary. This feels like the exact type of move GM Andrew Berry would make.
