Sean McDermott Gives Encouraging Update on Jordan Poyer Contract Negotiations

Safety Jordan Poyer was notably absent from the Buffalo Bills voluntary minicamp on Tuesday as he continues to seek a new contract with the team. The good news is that fans may not have to get too worried after head coach Sean McDermott gave his own encouraging update on the situation.
Sean McDermott says he's been in communication with Jordan Poyer and this is how the NFL works as far as the business part of the game. Sean says he loves Jordan and his family.

McDermott stressed that he has been in communication with Poyer this offseason, which makes it seem like the 10-year pro has a clear intention of staying in Buffalo. He is simply entering the final year of his current contract and would rather get a new deal locked down before Week 1 rolls around.
Poyer is coming off his first All-Pro season and posted 93 tackles (8.0 for loss) alongside 3.0 sacks. The 30-year-old also racked up 9 pass breakups and tied a career-high mark with 5 interceptions. Poyer's dominance in the secondary helped the Bills finish with the best pass defense DVOA rating.
The Bills are on the hook for a $10.7 million cap hit when it comes to rostering Poyer in 2022. That number would likely drop if the two sides are able to come to an agreement. After all, Buffalo remains in win-now mode and is looking to put together a squad capable of winning the Super Bowl.
Trade rumors are going to keep circulating as long as Poyer stays at home during team workouts. Whether or not they have any truth to them is yet to be seen, though. For now, the Bills own the best odds to be hoisting the Lombardi Trophy at +650, according to FanDuel Sportsbook.
