It's safe to say New York Giants fans are excited to see the team's starting running back Saquon Barkley back out on the field dominating opposing defenses in 2021. However, his latest injury update makes it seem like he will not be 100% healthy right away for the G-men.
Saquon Barkley Injury Update
According to ESPN's Jordan Raanan, Barkley's snaps could be limited early on in the season in order to ease him back into action. It has been seven months since the Pro-Bowler suffered a major knee injury (ACL & Meniscus tear) and he has been working hard all offseason rehabbing.
While there have been no major setbacks since Barkley had surgery in October of 2020, the 24-year-old is not expected to be a full participant early on in training camp practices this summer. It's not all bad news as Barkley is able to sprint, jump and work out with his teammates, though.
Making this kind of move would simply be a way to stay cautious. The Giants do not want Barkley to be rushed back into play before he is ready. The front office has already made it clear that the organization wants Barkley here for years to come and recently picked up his fifth-year option.
Barkley has been a bright spot on the Giants' offense during his first three NFL seasons averaging 4.7 yards per carry and 75.6 rushing yards per game. Overall, he has racked up 3,563 yards from scrimmage and scored 23 touchdowns in 31 games played.
The former No. 2 overall pick will be back to juking defenders and scoring touchdowns in no time, but it just may not be as early on in the season as originally expected.
