The Kansas City Royals entered the 2021 MLB season without any real expectations. This is a very young team in the process of experimenting with its young talent. Still, the Royals have played close to above-average baseball with a 29-28 overall record.

Kansas City sits in third-place of the AL Central standings, trailing the Chicago White Sox by 6.0 games.

As with every team coming out of a rebuild, the Royals have been eager to test out some top prospects this season. That continues tonight after the Royals called up their top right-handed pitching prospect, Jackson Kowar, to start tonight's game against the Los Angeles Angels.

Jackson Kowar Royals Debut

Kowar has been tearing it up in for Kansas City's Triple-A affiliate, the Omaha Storm Chasers. The 24-year-old starting pitcher owns a 0.85 ERA through 6 starts this season. He's pitched 31.2 innings and struck out 41 batters to just 10 walks. Better yet, the No. 4 prospect in the Royals farm system hasn't given up a single long ball this season.

As a team, Kansas City owns a 4.34 team ERA, which ranks in the bottom half of the league. It'll be exciting to watch one of their top prospects square off against an Angels lineup that's launched 74 long balls this season.

The Royals drafted Kowar with the No. 33 overall pick in 2018 out of the University of Florida.
