Rick Carlisle is signing a four-year, $29 million contract to be the Pacers' next head coach.

Rick Carlisle Pistons

Carlisle's first head-coaching gig came with the Detroit Pistons during the 2001-02 and 2002-03 seasons. He earned the NBA's Coach the Year award in his first year in Detroit, leading the Pistons to a 50-32 record as a rookie HC. But the Pistons fired Carlisle after another 50-32 season in 2002-03, reportedly due to tension with ownership. Larry Brown was hired as Carlisle's replacement and helped lead Detroit to the NBA title the following season.

Rick Carlisle Pacers

This will be Rick Carlisle's second stint with the Pacers. He landed in Indiana for the 2003-04 season after being fired by the Pistons. He went 181-147 across four seasons with the Pacers before being fired.

Carlisle went on to the Mavericks and served as head coach for 13 seasons. He went 555-478 during his head-coaching tenure there.
