It was revealed on Thursday that Cincinnati Reds outfielder Nick Castellanos had been dealing with a microfracture after being hit by a pitch last week. Unfortunately for Cincinnati, the initial reports that looked like the veteran would be out of the lineup for a couple of weeks have now come true.
It was revealed on Friday that Castellanos is heading to the 10-day injured list in order to allow him to fully recover from this injury.
Nick Castellanos Injury Update
Before getting injured, Castellanos was having the best season of his career thus far. Through 86 games, he's recorded 18 home runs and 59 RBIs while being in a tie for the MLB lead in doubles with 29. That's not even to mention his impressive .329/.383/.582 slash line.
The Reds have gone 3-5 since Castellanos' injury, so it's clear just what kind of impact he has on this team. This disappointing stretch has seen them fall to 6.5 games the NL Central-leading Milwaukee Brewers and 6.5 games back of the final National League Wild Card spot.
FanDuel Sportsbook has listed the Reds as having +6500 odds to win the 2021 World Series. Whenever Castellanos returns to the lineup, assuming he can continue his impressive play, he could help improve those odds.
