Boston Red Sox designated hitter and outfielder J.D. Martinez has missed the last three games with a sore wrist. Considering how Boston is currently one game behind the Tampa Bay Rays for first in the AL East, Red Sox fans are hoping that Martinez won't miss too much time.

Unfortunately, it's unclear as to how much time Martinez will miss. The three-time All-Star's last injury update was certainly a mixed one for the organization. While Martinez will be sidelined again for Monday's clash with the Miami Marlins, it doesn't appear that the ailment will land him on the Injured List.

J.D. Martinez Injury Update

While the latest injury update is more of a mixed bag, the good thing is that Martinez's X-rays came back negative. The important thing is that the Red Sox don't think he'll need to spend time on the IL, so hopefully the 33-year-old is back in the lineup sooner rather than later.

Even though the Red Sox are on a four-game winning streak, it's hard to imagine them not welcoming Martinez back to the lineup with open arms. After all, he's crushed 12 home runs and recorded 39 RBI in 209 at-bats — already surpassing his 2020 totals (7 HR, 27 RBI) in the same number of games (54).

Martinez is also slashing .321/.389/.569, which is his best slash line since the 2018 campaign when he finished fourth in AL Most Valuable Player voting.

The truth is that Boston could really use Martinez's bat if the team wants to win the AL East. The Red Sox currently have the third-best odds to win the division at +400, according to FanDuel Sportsbook.

They trail both the Rays (+150) and New York Yankees (+175).
