The MLB offseason is off and running just over a week removed from the 2022 World Series. The GM meetings just wrapped up and now attention turns to Tuesday's qualifying offer deadline.

Players must make a decision on any qualifying offers handed down from their respective clubs by Tuesday. A qualifying offer is handed out to departing free agents worth the average salary of the league's top-125 contracts (for one year). This competitive balance measure ensures a team compensation should their free agent reject the qualifying offer and sign elsewhere.

Texas Rangers starting pitcher Martin Perez was one free agent given a qualifying offer, a one-year deal for $19.65 million. On Monday, the Rangers received a massive update on Perez' future with the club.

According to MLB insider Jon Morosi, Perez is "likely to accept" the qualifying offer before Tuesday's deadline. Sportrac indicates Perez has a market value of $17.9 million in average annual value (AAV), so this $19.65 million is a bump. Of course, the qualifying offer does not provide long-term stability.

Perez blossomed in 2022. He notched his first All-Star appearance while pitching to a 2.89 ERA across 32 starts.
