The Indianapolis Colts are in search of a new starting quarterback after the retirement of Philip Rivers. Rather than going the draft route, the Colts will likely pursue a veteran in order to capitalize on the team's potential to contend right now.
With that in mind, head coach Frank Reich has reached out to franchise legend Peyton Manning for his input on the situation.
Reich says that Manning's opinions obviously carry "a ton of weight" given all of his success and importance to the franchise. There are likely multiple options the Colts are weighing, so Manning's thoughts will surely play a role in Indianapolis's search going forward.
The Colts have already missed out on one potential quarterback, with Matthew Stafford headed to the Los Angeles Rams. There's other established QBs who could become available this offseason, though, like Carson Wentz, who had previous success under Reich with the Philadelphia Eagles.
Indy could also turn to free agency, choosing a QB like Jameis Winston or Ryan Fitzpatrick to take over the team. Those options aren't without risk, so having input from someone like Manning will be an asset as the team hopes to solidify its contender status before next season.
