The New York Mets are riddled with injuries right now as a horde of players, including superstar pitcher Jacob deGrom, are currently on the Injured List. And it seems like things could be getting worse before they get better.
Third-year first baseman Pete Alonso was held out of Wednesday's game against the Atlanta Braves due to a sore wrist. While there's no concrete information on his status quite yet, an extended absence could be devastating to a team that's already without key bats like Jeff McNeil and Kevin Pillar.
Pete Alonso Injury Update
Crucially, the X-rays on his wrist came back negative. But the soreness that held him out of Wednesday's game is believed to have stemmed from getting hit by a pitch back on May 5. It's a bit worrying that the issue has lingered for this long.
The Mets have a day off on Thursday, so hopefully Alonso can get right before New York takes on the Miami Marlins on Friday.
Alonso has gotten off to a slow start this year, but he's still bashed 6 home runs and 19 RBI through 36 games. The Mets will need his powerful bat back in the lineup soon.
