Panthers Emerge as Favorites in Odds to Draft Isaiah Simmons

One of the top defensive prospects in the 2020 NFL Draft, the range of outcomes for Isaiah Simmons looks to be pretty wide. He's regularly been discussed as an option at No. 4 for the New York Giants, but with a ton of top quarterback and offensive line prospects, he could also slide to the bottom half of the top 10. The most recent NFL Draft odds, from FanDuel Sportsbook, reflect that.

The Carolina Panthers have emerged as the favorites, at +185, to select Simmons.

That +185 line tells us more than just that the Panthers could be his most likely landing spot. It also tells us that the situation is still very much up in the air, since even the favorites are getting long-shot odds.

Trailing the Panthers are the New York Giants (+250), Arizona Cardinals (+750), Detroit Lions (+750), Jacksonville Jaguars (+900) and Los Angeles Chargers (+900). That's a pretty notable spread, ranging from the team with the No. 3 pick (Detroit) to the team picking No. 9 (Jacksonville).

This uncertainty comes from how good the class surrounding Simmons is, and not a shot at his abilities. He finished his 2019 junior season with 104 tackles, including 16.5 tackles for loss and 8.0 sacks, while adding 3 interceptions and 8 passes defended. The ability to both rush the passer and drop into coverage at a high level makes him a perfect fit in modern NFL defenses.

Less than a week out from the draft, expect reports and rumors to start swirling even more aggressively. These odds are likely to undergo some serious swings ahead of Round 1 on Thursday night. The only safe bet is that Simmons is clearly going to be a top-10 pick.
