Baltimore Orioles 1B/LF Ryan Mountcastle has been a bright spot during a lowly 2021 campaign. He's one of the few consistent run producers in the lineup, and it's scary think where the 28-60 Orioles would be without his bat.
That nightmare may become a reality after Mountcastle was hit by a pitch on Sunday.
Ryan Mountcastle Injury
Mountcastle was hit in his left elbow and tried to remain in the game before being replaced by Pat Valaika at first base. The Orioles officially said the second-year pro suffered a left forearm contusion. It wouldn't be a surprise for the 1B/LF to land on the injured list, though X-rays were reported by team as negative, which is promising.
Even a short absence of Mountcastle's bat would be a huge blow for Baltimore. He ranks third on the team in home runs (14) and second in RBI (48).
Hopefully the upcoming All-Star break allows the 24-year-old to recover and continue his breakout campaign when play resumes.
