Last season didn't end quite end as every fan of the Notre Dame Fighting Irish hoped. This team was on top of the world with their second trip to the College Football Playoffs in three years. Unfortunately, Nick Saban and the Alabama Crimson Tide had different plans in the semifinals matchup.
Notre Dame fans all know what happened, but this team looks to rebound in a big way next season. And, despite losing their four-year starting quarterback Ian Book to the NFL Draft, Fighting Irish fans will be thrilled with their spot in ProFootballFocus' early preseason college football power rankings.
Notre Dame Football News
Notre Dame checks in at No. 8 on the list, a solid spot in the top-10 of this early ranking. Although the Fighting Irish finished No. 5 in the final AP Top-25 Rankings, this team has a lot of questions entering next year. With that in mind, a top-10 spot in PFF's rankings is simply awesome.
While head coach Brian Kelly will have to find a new option under center, this team returns one of the most dangerous running backs in the country in Kyren Williams. Entering his junior season, Williams had the third-most first downs (64) last season of all returning tailbacks. He rushed for 1,000-plus yards and added 13 scores on the ground and 1 through the air.
Kelly's squad also lost only three key defensive players in the NFL Draft. This unit returns a number of starters following a season in which they ranked top 25 in yards allowed per game (343.6 yards).
The Fighting Irish should be excited about next season, especially given these latest PFF power rankings. Right now, Notre Dame owns +8000 odds to win the National Championship on FanDuel Sportsbook.
