Buzz surrounding Nick Saban's record against his former coaching assistants has recently resurfaced, and it certainly hasn't gotten any less impressive.
Georgia head coach, Kirby Smart, who was a defensive coordinator under Saban at Alabama, was recently reminded of former assistants' struggles against their old boss.
What is Nick Saban's Record Against Former Assistants?
Since taking over as the Crimson Tide head coach, Saban is 16-0 when squaring off against former assistants. However, former Saban assistants shouldn't take this too personally, because he's been dominant against practically everyone. Saban has a 232-63-1 all-time record and is 146-21 since taking over as the head coach at Alabama.
At least three former Saban assistants will get a shot at being the first to beat the 67 year-old head coach in 2019. First, Will Muschamp, who coached under Saban while at LSU, will lead the South Carolina Gamecocks against the Crimson Tide in September.
After Muschamp, the Crimson Tide square off against Jimbo Fisher and Texas A&M in October. Fisher was Saban's offensive coordinator in the early 2000s at LSU. A week after that bout, former Alabama defensive coordinator, Jeremy Pruitt, who is now the head coach of the Tennessee Volunteers, will lead his team against Saban's Crimson Tide.
Kirby Smart will likely have to wait until the SEC Championship or even the 2020 College Football Playoff to have a crack at taking down his former mentor. However, there's a decent chance Saban is still undefeated against his former assistants at the time of their next meeting.
