NBA DFS 1/13/2022
Without further ado, here are three players to target and two to avoid in Thursday, 1/13, NBA DFS action.
FanDuel Picks Tonight NBA - 1/13
Nikola Jokic Fantasy
Target Nikola Jokic, C, Denver Nuggets ($11,500) Nikola Jokic continues to be a nightly triple-double threat and has put up 65-plus FanDuel fantasy points in two of his last four games. He now draws a poor Portland Trail Blazers defense that's even worse due to key absences. Portland has surrendered the fifth-most points per game to opponents this season, which should set Jokic up for a huge night as a scorer and distributor.
Jaren Jackson Jr. Fantasy
Target Jaren Jackson Jr., PF/C, Memphis Grizzlies ($7,600): Jaren Jackson Jr.'s recent explosion on the boards has led to some huge fantasy outings. JJJ is averaging 10.3 rebounds over the last three games to go along with 20.0 PPG. Jackson is also adding value on the defensive side with 2.3 steals and a whopping 4.7 blocks per game. The big man could keep up his swiping ways against a Minnesota Timberwolves team that's committing the fourth-most turnovers per game. Minnesota is also in the top 10 for most opponent rebounds given up, boosting Jackson's upside.
Dennis Smith Jr. Fantasy
Target Dennis Smith Jr., PG, Portland Trail Blazers ($5,500): Dennis Smith Jr. looks like a candidate for steal of the night. His numbers have dropped off since his early December resurgence, but he could pick things up again as the leading man in the Portland Trail Blazers' backcourt. Damian Lillard, CJ McCollum, Anfernee Simons and Norman Powell are all out for Thursday's contest, leaving DSJ as the only healthy PG on the roster. Smith has the potential to boom as the Blazers' primary initiator on offense.
Shai Gilgeous-Alexander Fantasy
Avoid Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, SG/PG, Oklahoma City Thunder ($8,000): Shai Gilgeous-Alexander popped off on Tuesday, but his recent string of performances is hard to ignore. SGA didn't crack 30 fantasy points in any of his three previous contests, with his scoring (13.0 PPG) taking a major hit due to poor shooting from the field (27.5%) and deep (16.7%). Don't read too much into his bounce-back outing against a bad Washington Wizards defense. It's best to avoid SGA against the Brooklyn Nets, who rank top-10 in defensive rating.
Jusuf Nurkic Fantasy
Avoid Jusuf Nurkic, C, Portland Trail Blazers ($7,500): Jusuf Nurkic draws one of the toughest matchups for a big man in Jokic and the Nuggets on Thursday. Denver is holding opponents to the fifth-fewest rebounds per game, thanks to Jokic's dominance (14.1 RPG) on the boards and a strong frontcourt rotation. Nurkic hasn't done much in two meetings with the Nuggets earlier this season, recording a combined 10 points, 13 rebounds and 4 assists. One of those outings was a blowout in Denver's favor that limited Nurk to just under 22 minutes played, and that could be the same case tonight given the Blazers' short-staffed roster.
