The Denver Broncos will have their starting quarterback back on the field against the Jacksonville Jaguars in Week 8. Russell Wilson is set to play after missing Week 7's contest with a hamstring injury and head coach Nathaniel Hackett explained what ultimately led to the veteran giving it a go Sunday.
Denver Broncos Injury News
The Broncos' bye week follows Sunday's action in London, which brought up a debate about playing it safe and giving Wilson two more weeks to fully heal. He was not a fan of that idea, though. Hackett jokingly stated that it was not a "great discussion" and made it clear Wilson wants to lead his team.
This shouldn't come as much of a surprise. Wilson has always been a gamer and even went through his own workout regimen while on the team's overseas flight. He has stayed positive in his recovery, too, mentioning how "storms don't always last" when talking about Denver's early season struggles.
Backup Brett Rypien's inconsistency and lack of success in Week 7 likely played a role in this decision as well. The 26-year-old completed just 24 of his 46 pass attempts for 225 yards and 1 interception in a loss to the New York Jets. The Broncos were held to under 10 points for the second time in 2022.
Wilson hasn't exactly been lights out, either, posting a career-low 58.6% completion percentage through six games. However, he has a shot to bounce back against a Jaguars' defense that is allowing the 238.1 passing yards per game (No. 20 in NFL). This may be a must-win game for Hackett's squad.
FanDuel Sportsbook's NFL odds list the Broncos as 2.5-point underdogs against the Jaguars.
