A brutal 6-15 stretch in July caused the Boston Red Sox campaign to seemingly fall apart at the seams. Boston now only sits 0.5 games up from the last-place Baltimore Orioles and may be one of the most intriguing sellers at next week's MLB Trade Deadline.
As with any team struggling in the standings, rumors have begun swirling about some of Boston's biggest stars as potential trade fits for contending teams. That includes veteran slugger J.D. Martinez, who was named to his fifth All-Star team this past month.
MLB insider Jeff Passan named a surprising trade deadline destination for the Red Sox All-Star.

Mets Trade Rumors
Passan said Martinez is "someone who makes all sorts of sense" for the New York Mets, who will be on the big-time buying side this next week. New York already landed Daniel Vogelbach on July 22, but the team may not be done acquiring talent.
Adding Martinez to the Mets lineup is a scary proposition, considering the MVP-caliber season Pete Alonso has put together. Martinez' .302 batting average is higher than every other starter on the roster, and his .849 OPS ranks above everyone aside from Alonso.
The 12-year veteran also touts 9 home runs and 38 RBIs. Keep in mind, this is for a Mets' lineup that ranks sixth in runs scored (447), but just 12th in OPS (.719).
New York is trying to hold off the surging Atlanta Braves, who have cut the NL East lead to 2.0 games. Still the Mets hold +750 odds (4th) to win the 2022 World Series on FanDuel Sportsbook.
