Detroit Tigers pitcher Michael Fulmer is no stranger to trade rumors and is prepared to hear his name floated around until the deadline arrives. The 29-year-old is set to be a free agent at the end of the season and recently took the time to dive into what his mindset is heading into the month of July.
Michael Fulmer Trade Rumors
Fulmer told reporters on Saturday that he is not worried about what the future holds, but is rather focused on excelling in his role as a reliever. He doesn't believe the season is over yet and that the Tigers could soon turn things around. It's wishful thinking considering Detroit is 28-43 on the year.
"I'm pitching here until I'm not, whenever that day is. I'm not really worried about it. I'm not really focused on it. I'm just trying to go up and put up the best numbers I can, just trying to get wins."- Michael Fulmer on Trade Rumors
It's safe to say that contending teams in search of bullpen upgrades are going to look Fulmer's way. The sixth-year pro has logged a 2.00 ERA and career-best 0.93 WHIP across 27.0 innings this season. He has also racked up 27 strikeouts and is an affordable option given his $4.95 million salary in 2022.
Fulmer isn't directly ignoring the rumors, though, saying he has reached out to a former teammate in Daniel Norris about what is is like to be dealt midseason. Pitching in the playoffs has always been a goal of Fulmer's, but it's something he may only be able to accomplish away from the Tigers.
