New York Mets fans held their breath Wednesday night after right fielder Starling Marte was hit with a pitch by Milwaukee Brewers starter Corbin Burnes. The 97-mph sinker caught Marte in the hand, and it immediately prompted worries about a serious injury.
Thankfully, it appears the veteran has avoided the worst once again.
Starling Marte Injury Update
The team announced X-rays on Marte's hand/wrist came back negative Wednesday night. He'll be day-to-day, which is the best-case scenario following this scary incident.
Marte only suffering a contusion on the HBP is a hugh sigh of relief. The outfielder had just recently returned from a quad injury that sidelined for a handful of days, so it appears luck is on his side.
Hopefully Marte is able to make a return in short order. He's slashing .284/.329/.446 this season along with 7 home runs and 34 RBIs in 53 games.
